One thing that I like a lot about the book so far is the fact that Finkel is so practical. The part about the parables and students liking to figure things out really made me think. We just finished poetry, and I hope students felt a sense of achievement by figuring it out, but I always think I end up talking too much. This gives me an idea of how to approach it next time. Hmm...

You know, poetry may be the closest thing we have to parables these days. :)
I know I have a bias for poetry that tells a clear and understandable story, and I know students do, too. That's why students tend to like Robert Frost, for example. Nothing wrong with Robert Frost, of course, but teaching students how to analyze and unlock the langauge puzzle of a difficult poem is important, me thinks.
